Afound milk crate, feathers, and a wall—Daydream grows out of a yearningto dissolve barriers while seeking the safety of the familiar. In Poetics of Space, Gaston Bachelard writes,“Life in corners, and the universe itself withdrawn into a corner with thedaydreamer.” This complex relationshipbetween fear and curiosity, an oscillation between the quest and the withdrawal, collides with the materials of nourishment and comfort which are so oftenviolently extracted from a source that has been cornered and controlled. It’s within this space that I’m currentlymaking.
