Exhibition Statement

Survival of the fittest, or natural selection, is the cornerstone of Charles Darwin’s Theory of Evolution. “Fit” as opposed to “unfit” individuals of a species are more likely to survive, reproduce, and pass on their genetic material to subsequent generations. Ironically, scientific black-and-white thinking is echoed by Western religious traditions. Good, saved, and fit conquering over evil, condemned, and unfit. And yet, the sick survive, slipping the trap, evading definitions, and refusing boundaries.

one dozen red roses regurgitated, screen print on heirloom baby pillowcase, artist’s childhood high chair, 13"x32"x20"

13"x32"x20"

Visual Description: A brown, wooden highchair with textured legs and spokes has an off-white, small pillow case dangling smoothly from the edge of its seat. charcoal and colored pencil on paper

11.25"x8"x1.25" (each)

Visual Descriptions: Three black and white, framed drawings hang on a wall in a stacked column with gaps between them. The top drawing is a shoulder up portrait of a white woman with short hair with an egg shell dangling from her opened mouth. The middle drawing is the midsection of the same naked woman and has an orange egg yolk presumably where her belly button would go. The third drawing is of the woman's bottom half sitting down; she is still naked and her hand's block her genitalia. Her hands loosely grasp an egg.

8"x26"x.05"

Visual Description: A small, smooth buttery yellow rectangle dangles from a sewing needle on a white wall. It contains a three dimensional cast of the artist's throat. Underneath it are two silvery grey rectangles that hang on the wall in a column formation. Within the rectangles are stacked circles that transition from white to almost black.

Anthropemy III

2022- ongoing

one dozen red roses regurgitated, screen print on heirloom baby pillowcase, white oak

13"x15"x2"

Visual Description: An off-white, almost sepia tone tiny pillow case rests on a wood strip in a way that makes it seem like it is sitting up. Small, ornate embroidery creates a frame for the image printed on the pillow case in reddish brown ink. The abstracted image is of a woman (the artist) spitting something into her lap.

found doll and a bedsheet (natural dye, ripped into strips, wound into cord, and woven)

2025

beeswax cast of orange halves and pigment

8.5"x11"x2"

Visual Description: Two half, three dimensional spheres hang staggered on the wall. Between the walls and the spheres are rectangles of creased, white wax paper. The spheres are multiple shades of brown with bits of orange poking through the brown's surface.

Untitled (rib cage)

2024

steam bent white oak

13"x20"2.75"

Visual Description: Bent strips of oak wood create a grid-like structure that hangs on a white wall. The twelve horizontal strips form convex curves and narrow in width from top to bottom creating a pyramid-like shape. The three vertical strips are in the center with a gap between them. They curve at the top. Dramatic shadows on the wall mirror the overall rib cage shape of the sculpture.

Bone of My Bones

hydrocal, bovine bone

7"x 3 "x2"

Visual Description: A three dimensional object hangs on a white wall. Half of the object is a pale pink and the other half is made of bone and is brown and tan in color.
